Can you use a joystick to play Duke Nukem Forever?

My father has loved the Duke Nukem series for as long as even I can remember, even when I was little. He was psyched to hear about the new game coming out and wanted it ASAP...but the Xbox and PS3 controllers aggravate his arthritis. He is most comfortable using the Logitech 3D Pro Joystick, but we can't seem to get the device and the game to coincide. Is it even possible to get the two to work together? I can't find any answers online or any support information from either Logitech or the game itself. Any suggestions, answers would be so much appreciated! I want to see my father so happy to use his favorite game with his favorite controller :(
